If you and your family are planning a lengthy summer vacation, more than 1 week, then you should consider cutting off your home’s water supply at the main shutoff valve or water meter. Just make sure that when you decide to cut off your homes water supply, you also cut off the water to your water heater (only applies for electrical water heaters, as gas water heaters automatically turn to vacation/pilot mode). Only do this if no one will be entering your home while you are away.
Because high water pressure problems mean that leaks and floods most often take place when the system isn’t actually being used, you’re most likely to experience a leak while you’re asleep or away. If your home has high water pressure it can damages things much more quickly. Your homes water system isn’t designed to be under pressure for an extended period of time.
